I am thrilled to launch my new art series, ‘A Love Letter to Arizona,’ which is based on the beautiful Arizona landscape. Whether it’s the distinctive colors, textures, shapes, or symbols, my process is to abstract them, reconfigure them, and in the end, celebrate them through the artist’s lens. This series starts with a group of thirteen small works, perfect for a bookshelf, a desk, in a series of two, three, or more, or something that moves around your office or home.
Celebrating Mothers through Art
This series is also about celebrating mothers. Not just because it coincided with Mother’s Day, but rather, because of my own connection to my mother, her appreciation for art, and my gratitude for her. She was the best role model and cheerleader throughout my life. When she moved to Arizona, she fell in love with the vibrancy of Arizona and discovered a childlike enthusiasm for the region.
Views to Remember

Original artwork by Lori Brunner. Acrylic on board.
To dive into the series a bit, I give you an inside look at how one piece, ‘Views to Remember,‘ a 21″x17″ acrylic on board work, came about. Many times, as I drive into our immediate neighborhood, I am awed by this view where the visual line of the Usery Mountains and distinctive blue sky abut. It seems too vivid to even be real at times, but it is. It’s a fleeting appreciation of the landscape that we call home. So the painting is a play in perspective, shape, form, and also memories. As I ebb back and forth with this series of landscapes and my mother, I recall my mother’s deep appreciation for her ‘new’ Arizona views out her window. These views captured Camelback and city lights. So this artwork, ‘Views to Remember’ is a compilation of the appreciation of the distinctive Arizona landscape, mothers, and memories. When my mother of ninety, could find a newfound appreciation of nature around her, it warmed my heart, and helped me remember to stop and appreciate the beauty around us every day.
I will let the other pieces speak for themselves for now. I hope you find your own interpretation of this series so far. More to come soon. Enjoy! And please reach out to me (lori@loribrunner.com) to talk about these more, or to look at a piece in person.
Lori Brunner Art
I am a lifelong artist and founder of Lori Brunner Art, a multi-disciplinary design studio focusing on original art, interior design, and artful products for the home. Before launching Lori Brunner Art, I was a professor of interior design for over 15 years at Iowa State University and Arizona State University, where I taught all levels of interior design studios and two and three-dimensional art. While I spent most of my life working and living in the Midwest, I moved to Arizona with my family in 2017 and spend time between Arizona and California. You can look at my other art series, ‘A Love Letter to La Jolla‘ on my website, as well.
I am passionate about interiors and art, both on their own, but especially the interplay. the magic they can have on each other–but most importantly, the impact they can have on a person. I hope these paintings bring you joy and a sense of Arizona in your everyday.
